India Network Foundation launches Special Initiative to help US Citizens with Pre-existing Medical Conditions

India Network Foundation is pleased to announce formation of a special Office to assist elderly Asian Indian parents who might have immigrated to the United States later in their life and are unable to find a suitable health insurance plan. India Network Foundation has been sponsoring an award winning health insurance plan for visiting parents to cover them during their stay in the United States or anywhere outside home country. The coverage offered by India Network is includes limited coverage for pre-existing conditions (see http://health.IndiaNetwork.org) and is available to all age groups. However, US Citizens are not covered under the India Network Health Insurance Plan. In an effort to help those individuals and families, India Network Foundation launches this free consultation and guidance community service program.

Generally US Citizens diagonised with diabetes or blood pressure or other heart condition have hard time getting any kind of insurance and they are  automatically denied coverage by major insurance companies  such as AETNA, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Golden Rule (United Health), Assurant Health Insurance etc. under individual coverage mandates.   The member of targeted group for this service is someone who immigrated to the United States after their retirement in India to join their children in the United States on a permanent basis and have one or two common ailments such as diabetes and blood pressure.  India Network Foundation staff will work these impacted individuals on one to one basis and provide guidance on obtaining pre-existing condition coverage under the federal program.

The Affordable Health Care for America Act of 2010 (aka Obama Care) provides an alternative mechanism for US Citizens and legal residents that were denied health insurance coverage by domestic insurance companies.  There are several conditions to be met before someone could become eligible to participate in the federal pre-existing condition insurance coverage:

  • You must be a United States citizen or reside here legally.
  • You must be without health coverage for at least the last six months before you apply.
  • You must have a pre-existing condition or have been denied coverage because of your health condition.

If you meet all of the above requirements, please contact India Network Foundation office to assist you in completing the application process. India Network can help you in evaluating the third criteria above and issue a letter if found eligible in support of your application. The premiums for coverage under this program are established by age but not by medical conditions of the individual enrollee and they vary by State: For example, Premium for a 50 year old is $428 per month with $2500 out of pocket maximum per year in California.  Somewhat  Similar plan for visiting parents in 50-59 age  group offered by India Network costs about $186.26 per month. Thus the plan offered by the Federal Program is a bit expensive due to high risk involved in the plan.
